Care for Disc Herniations

Are you experiencing back pain? It may be a herniated disc. This condition is a protruding disc fragment that presses against the nerves within the spinal canal. Often it hits the sciatic nerve that runs down through the leg into the foot, causing severe pain and numbness.

Treatment

Most back pain is due to aging or a muscle sprain or strain. Our physical medicine specialists (physiatrists) can help you manage your back pain. Physiatrists treat a wide range of problems, from sore neck, back and shoulders to spinal cord injuries. They focus on restoring function through physical therapy and other conservative measures, including steroid shots and anti-inflammatory and pain medications.
